Catholic Church urges Otti to sustain war against garbage, provides street sweeping vehicles

Umuahia Diocese Supports State’s Environmental Efforts
The Catholic Diocese of Umuahia is urging Abia State Governor Alex Otti to continue his initiatives for maintaining a clean environment in the region. The call to action highlights the importance of sustaining efforts to combat waste and environmental degradation.
Bishop Michael Kalu Ukpong of the Umuahia Diocese made the statement on Monday during the handover of two street sweeping vehicles to the Abia State Government. The vehicles are intended to bolster the operations of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) in its mission to keep Umuahia and surrounding areas clean.
Bishop Ukpong emphasized that a clean environment is vital for public health and reiterated the church’s commitment to support government policies aimed at enhancing the environmental conditions for the citizens of Abia.
Ambrose, the Deputy General Manager of ASEPA for the Umuahia Zone, expressed gratitude for the support from the Catholic Diocese, noting that the new vehicles would significantly enhance the agency’s capabilities. He assured residents that the vehicles would be deployed to extend services to underserved communities within the state.
