Cats star hospitalised after brutal clash with teammate

Geelong star Jeremy Cameron has been taken to hospital following a brutal collision with his own teammate Gary Rohan in a marking contest.

Cameron was left heavily concussed after copping an inadvertent shoulder to his head with 11.53 left in the first quarter of the undermanned Cats’ courageous 15-point win over the Demons.

The match was stopped for more than five minutes as Cameron lay motionless on the turf before being helped off on a stretcher by Geelong’s medical staff.

“It was a big collision guys,” Seven’s sideline reporter Abbey Holmes said.

“I heard it down here at ground level and he has not moved from that position. They knew straight away it was bad and were calling for the stretcher.”

Rohan was left visibly distressed in the minutes following the clash as the two teams huddled and waited for Cameron to be stretchered off.

Cameron, who was replaced by Jack Bowes, was taken to a nearby hospital for further assessment.

Geelong captain Patrick Dangerfield, who is currently sidelined through his own injuries, revealed that Cameron was “responsive” after being taken off the ground.

While he may have been shaken immediately following the clash with Cameron, Rohan was one of Geelong’s best in the win, finishing with three goals and 16 possessions.

“Gary’s such a thoughtful guy, so I think it probably rattled him a little bit early,” teammate Rhys Stanley told Fox Footy.

“Then he was able to get back on task really quickly, which was great. He had a massive impact in that game.”

Geelong remains in ninth position on the ladder despite the win, while Melbourne could possibly be overtaken by the Brisbane Lions for third by the end of the round if the Lions beat St Kilda on Friday night.
