Chelsea have agreed on a deal to sign Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid on a loan deal.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Champions League winners are set to pay a loan fee of €5 million and the player will arrive in London soon to sign a contract with the Blues.

Chelsea have already agreed on personal terms with the player and the 26-year-old should finalise his move to Stamford Bridge before the deadline.

Saul had dropped down the pecking order at Atletico Madrid last season and he needed to leave the club in order to play regular first-team football.

The Spanish champions signed Rodrigo de Paul at the start of the season and the Spaniard would have struggled even further with regards to game time this season.

Chelsea could definitely use more depth in the central midfield and Saul will compete with the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante for the starting berth.

The Spanish midfielder is immensely talented and he could prove to be a very useful option for Chelsea if he manages to recapture his form and confidence.

The Atletico Madrid player can operate in multiple roles across the midfield and his versatility will be an added bonus for Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel.Β The 26-year-old can also slot in as a defender.

The reported €5 million loan fee could look like a bargain if he manages to adapt to the Premier League quickly.

Furthermore, the Blues could look to sign him permanently at the end of this season if he managed to impress during his loan spell.
