COAS tasks troops to sustain offensive against terrorists

Military Urges Troops to Intensify Operations Against Insurgents in North-East

Nigerian military leaders have called on troops engaged in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the North-East to maintain pressure on terrorist groups as operations in the region continue.

This directive was communicated in a press release on March 8, 2026, shared via the official page of the Nigerian Army. The Army Chief issued the orders during an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, Borno State, on March 7.

The visit was intended to evaluate the security situation, review ongoing activities, and enhance coordination with various security partners addressing persistent threats in the area. In his address to the troops, Chief of Army Staff Shaibu praised their efforts and sacrifices in the current operations.

“The days of remaining in defensive positions are over. Troops must continue to take the fight to the terrorists wherever they are found,” Shaibu stated. He emphasized the importance of improved intelligence gathering, effective coordination among military units, and sustaining operational momentum to build on recent successes against insurgents.

The Army Chief also urged troops to adopt an aggressive operational stance, particularly during the nearing conclusion of the Ramadan period, to restrict the movement of terrorists.

The Theatre Commander for the Joint Task Force, Abdulsalam Abubakar, provided the Army Chief with a briefing on recent operational activities, highlighting both achievements and challenges faced within the region. Abubakar reaffirmed the troops’ commitment and professionalism in their mission to restore peace and security in the North-East.

The statement concluded that despite ongoing challenges in some areas, troops remain resolute in fulfilling their mandate.
