Court jails Builderstech MD 48 yrs for N500m scam

Federal High Court Sentences Builderstech Managing Director to 48 Years for Investment Fraud

MAKURDI, Benue State — The Managing Director of Builderstech Solution Ltd, Agene Johnson Godwin, was sentenced to 48 years in prison by the Federal High Court on Tuesday for his involvement in a substantial investment fraud scheme.

Justice M.S. Abubakar issued the sentence after finding Godwin guilty on eight counts brought forth by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The charges stemmed from Godwin’s fraudulent operations, which reportedly defrauded over 5,000 investors of more than 500 million naira through deceptive investment propositions.

During the trial, the court heard that Godwin lured members of the public with false promises of high, unrealistic returns on their investments. The judge emphasized the severity of Godwin’s actions and the wide-reaching impact on victims, leading to the imposition of a cumulative prison term without the option of a fine.

Following the ruling, the EFCC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the public against financial crimes, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant when considering investment opportunities, particularly those that offer unusual returns.
