Court reinstates Emir of Kontagora

Mohammed Barau Kontagora who was stopped from parading himself as the 7th Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora by a court, has been reinstated by a Niger State High Court sitting in Minna on Wednesday October 20.

The ex parte order was vacated after Justice Abdullahi Mikailu  listened to arguments from the defendant’s counsel. He had argued that the stool of the emir was not a perishable commodity and therefore, should not be left vacant.

The counsel had also said that the current security situation in the country required the participation of traditional rulers in talking to their subjects on the issues of security, adding that the town should not be left without a king.

The judge who ruled that Kontagora should return to the stool pending hearing and determination of the substantive suit, adjourned the case to November 11 for hearing.
