Dbanj And Other Celebrities Linked With Crime In Nigeria (List)

Crimes and illegal acts over the years have become a major concern for Nigerians and law enforcement agencies in the country.

Security operatives in all their effort have tried to halt the spread of crimes across the country to keep citizens safe from any possible harm.

However, celebrities who are believed to be a representation of what our society should look like have been involved in one crime or the other, thereby encouraging their fans and followers to tread on the same path.

The recent and trending issue is the arrest and detention of popular Nigerian singer, Oladapo Oyebanji, also known as Dbanj.

Naija News had earlier reported that the singer was arrested by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC).

According to reports emerging, the singer was arrested for allegedly fraudulently diverting hundreds of millions of naira earmarked by the Nigerian government for the N-Power project.

N-Power is an empowerment program set up by the Nigerian government in 2016 to address youth unemployment and increase social development.

This news platform has deemed it fit to share a list of celebrities linked with crime and some that have been convicted.

1. Oladapo Oyebanji (Dbanj)

The Nigerian singer on Tuesday, 6th of December was arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC).

The agency was reported to have arrested Dbanj for fraudulently diverting hundreds of millions of naira earmarked by the Nigerian government for the N-Power project.

A further report had it that the singer allegedly connived with some government officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of the scheme.

2. Olarenwaju Omiyinka (Baba Ijesha)

Popular Nigerian actor, Olarenwaju Omiyinka, professionally known as Baba Ijesha on the 14th of July 2022 was sentenced to 16 years in prison for sexual assault on a minor.

The minor was an adopted daughter of comedian and actress, Damilola Adekoya, popularly known as Princess.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos eventually sentenced the actor to 16 years in prison.

3. Sauce Kid

Popular rapper Babalola Falemi, professionally known as Sauce Kid (Sinzu) in 2017 was arrested and sentenced to two years in jail in the United States of America for aggravated identity theft.

Sinzu was said to have stolen over 15 bank cards, encoded the bank numbers into blank cards, changed the PINs and withdrawn cash from Automated Teller Machines. He also allegedly stole $15,388 from unsuspecting victims.

The rapper pleaded guilty to the crime, which was described in the US penal code as ‘the unlawful taking of the property of another person or business, ranging from $1000 to $500,000’.

4. Taiwo Akinwade (Wunmi)

Popular Nigerian actress, Taiwo Akinwade, also known as Wunmi in 2017 was sentenced to three years in prison after she was found guilty of drug trafficking.

She was arrested by the NDLEA at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, as she was about to board a plane to London, United Kingdom, in September 2006.

She was sentenced to three years in prison or to pay a fine of N1m in January 2007.

5. Dammy Krane

Dammy Krane in 2017 was accused by an American jet company, Tapjets of using five different credit cards that did not belong to him while trying to book a private jet with them.

He was arrested and sent to jail for theft, credit card scam, and fraud. He was released from jail in Miami after meeting his bail conditions, set at $7,500, after pleading not guilty to the charges and demanded a trial by jury.
