Deeply troubling – ADC chieftain Okai worried as AEDC announces power outage during FCT election

Concerns Raised Over Planned Power Outages in Federal Capital Territory

Austin Okai, a leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed concerns regarding the motivations behind scheduled power outages in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the council elections.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announced on Friday that it would conduct major maintenance work in various locations within the nation’s capital on Saturday. The maintenance is set to occur from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in some areas, while other locations will experience disruptions from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is slated to conduct council elections in the FCT on Saturday.

In a statement on Facebook, Okai questioned the timing of the planned outages, stating, “Why would AEDC cut power from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the elections?” He also raised alarms about reports suggesting potential limitations on internet access by telecommunications companies in the FCT throughout the voting period. Okai described these developments as “deeply troubling and unfair to the voters of the FCT.”
