Delta: Police bust suspected gang armoury, foil hostel robbery in Agbor

Delta State Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robbers and Kidnappers, Recover Firearms
The Delta State Police Command announced the arrest of suspected armed robbers and kidnappers, along with the recovery of several locally fabricated firearms and ammunition within the state.
In a statement released on Friday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe reported that operatives discovered a suspected criminal armory linked to a syndicate allegedly targeting commuters on the Warri-Sapele road.
The arrests followed the transfer of a 25-year-old suspect, Dafiaga Timothy from Effurun Community, to the Command’s Special Assignment Team. Timothy was handed over by the Divisional Police Officer of Ororokpe Division.
Acting on intelligence gathered during the interrogation, a team led by ASP Julius Robinson raided a concealed hideout along the Sapele-Warri Road near the Adheje Community at approximately 5:30 a.m. on February 19, 2026.
During the operation, police recovered a locally made long gun, a cut-to-size firearm, and a Beretta-style pistol loaded with five live rounds. Additionally, ten live cartridges and a dagger were found at the site.
Authorities stated that the seizure has significantly impaired the operational capabilities of the suspected syndicate. An investigation is ongoing.
In a separate operation on February 18, 2026, police intercepted a blue tricycle along the Agbarho/Warri Expressway during a routine patrol at around 5:00 a.m. Two of the three occupants fled into nearby bushes, while the driver, identified as 25-year-old Aliyu Sabo from Hausa Quarter at DSC Roundabout, was apprehended.
Police discovered a cut-to-size pistol hidden within the tricycle, along with one live cartridge and one spent cartridge. Other items recovered included two mobile phones, an MP3 player, a face mask, and a black bag.
Meanwhile, officers from the Agbor Division thwarted an attempted robbery at Texas Lodge Hostel in Alihame Community, Agbor. CSP Micheal Obekpa led an anti-crime patrol team to the location at about 4:00 a.m. on February 18, 2026, following reports of an intrusion at the hostel.
Upon arriving, the suspects fled into the nearby bush. A subsequent search yielded a locally fabricated pistol and an expended cartridge, which authorities believe were left behind by the suspects. Police also recovered three mobile phones — an iPhone XR, a Samsung device, and a Tecno phone, along with an earpod and a power bank.
