DeSantis Signs Law Protecting Womens’ Sports, Says ‘To Hell’ With NCAA Events

On Tuesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law that bans some transgender athletes from competing in womens’ sports. Florida becomes the seventh state to enact such a law that prevents biologically born males who identify as female from competing with biologically born females.

Under the new law, a female transgender student athlete would have to confirm their biological sex with proof such as a birth certificate.

DeSantis signed the bill at Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, where he stated, “In Florida, girls are going to play girls sports, and boys are going to play boys sports. That’s the reality.”

The State Of Transgender Athletes In Other States

Florida joins Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Mississippi, Tennessee, and West Virginia in prohibiting biological males from competing in womens’ sports. In South Dakota, Governor Kristi Noem has signed executive orders banning transgender athletes.

In March, Noem had a chance to pass such a ban, but vetoed the bill under what is called “style and form.” Noem said at the time that the wording of the bill would make it easy for organizations like the NCAA to sue.

Ten other states have some sort of transgender ban in various stages of the legislative process.

However, with many state legislatures wrapping up their sessions for the year, some will have to reintroduce new bills in new sessions next year.

DeSantis Takes The Lead Once Again

It is easy to see why the populations of places like New York and California are dwindling, and Florida is booming. Governor Ron DeSantis has taken the lead on several issues that might be controversial for those not willing to take them on.

DeSantis recently took on Big Tech by signing into law SB7072. This bill will allow Floridians to sue big tech companies if their posts are censored, and imposes hefty fines for those tech companies who ban elected officials from their platforms.

During the bill signing, things got a bit testy with a reporter who asked DeSantis if he was “doing the bidding of Trump.”

DeSantis got a standing ovation from the audience when he replied, “But I do think that’s another issue that has been brought to bear: When you de-platform the president of the United States but you let Ayatollah Khomeini talk about killing Jews, that is wrong.”

DeSantis also recently signed SB90 to shore up the integrity of future elections in the Sunshine State.

The bill places restrictions on the use of drop boxes, limits on placement location, and who can drop off ballots. The law would also prohibit automatic renewal of vote-by-mail requests, and additional ID requirements for obtaining an absentee ballot.

DeSantis has also recently signed into law a bill that increases penalties for crimes committed during riots, and banned the use of COVID-19 vaccine passports.

DeSantis Not Afraid Of The ‘Woke Mob’

In a very candid interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Tuesday, DeSantis was adamant about not bowing to cancel culture and caving to woke corporations.

DeSantis said,

“You can’t be cowed by these organizations but particularly by woke corporations from doing the right thing. So my view was throughout this whole time was we have to protect our girls. It is discriminatory to force them to compete against biological males.”

DeSantis then sent a clear message to the NCAA: “The price of having a tournament is I have to deny equal opportunity to hundreds of thousands of young girl and women athletes throughout Florida — I am much more willing to stand with the girls and to hell with these events.”
