Did he read it – Rufai slams Tinubu for signing Electoral Act in less than 24 hours

Anchor Criticizes President Tinubu Over Rapid Passage of Electoral Act

Rufai Oseni, an anchor at Arise News, criticized President Bola Tinubu for signing the controversial Electoral Act into law less than 24 hours after its approval by the National Assembly.

During a discussion on Tuesday’s “Morning Show,” Oseni suggested that the president may not have fully reviewed the legislation before signing.

On Wednesday, President Tinubu officially enacted the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026.

Oseni expressed concerns about the legislative process, questioning whether the bill underwent appropriate scrutiny. “This is an aberration to democracy,” he stated. “Did the president consult with the Attorney General? What bill did he even sign? Who vetted the bill? Did he read it, or was it simply a rushed decision?”

He also raised concerns about discrepancies that have arisen between past legislation and what has been officially documented. “This same National Assembly has yet to account for the tax bill,” he noted.

Oseni further criticized the current state of the opposition, describing it as ineffective. “If we had a strong opposition, they should be actively filing court cases by now,” he commented. “It seems they could take a lesson in organization from the APC.”

The remarks reflect ongoing debates regarding the legislative process and governmental oversight in Nigeria.
