DIG Frank Mba, other senior police officers to retire amid leadership reshuffle

Retirement Set for Senior Nigerian Police Officers Following Leadership Changes

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Frank Mba and several other senior officials are poised to retire from the Nigeria Police Force amid recent leadership transitions.

This shift follows the departure of former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the appointment of Tunji Disu, who was sworn in on Wednesday as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police.

Sources from the Force Headquarters indicate that the retiring officers are preparing to exit their roles, with many beginning to clear their offices in anticipation of the formal notification. “The DIGs are ready to step aside, but they are waiting for the official signal. Some have already moved their personal belongings from their offices,” one source commented.

Further developments include the scheduled appearance of seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police before the Police Service Commission for promotion examinations. This process is expected to facilitate the transition of outgoing Deputy Inspectors-General. The officers considered for promotion are Margreth Ochalla, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Ishiaku Mohammed, Zachariah Fera, Zango Ibrahim, Umar Shehu Nadada, and Muhammed Abdul Sulaiman. They are set to present themselves to the commission in Abuja for the promotion exercise on Friday.

When contacted, Torty Kalu, spokesperson for the Police Service Commission, did not confirm or deny the impending retirements.

Frank Mba, expected to retire soon, is a qualified lawyer who earned his law degree from the University of Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002 after completing his studies at the Nigerian Law School in Abuja. He later received a Master’s degree in Law with distinction from the University of Dundee in Scotland.

Mba’s extensive career includes significant roles, such as Commissioner of Police in Ogun State and as head of the Border Patrol Force at the Force Headquarters. Additionally, he served as Area Commander in the Ajah and FESTAC divisions of Lagos during earlier stages of his career. Mba has also participated in various international training programs, including the FBI National Academy in Quantico and leadership courses at Harvard University and the University of Oxford.
