Don’t back political activities with weapons – Police warns
Jigawa State Police Engage Political Leaders to Ensure Peaceful Campaigns
DUTSE, Jigawa State — The Jigawa State Police Command has reached out to leaders of all registered political parties in an effort to promote orderly and peaceful political activities ahead of upcoming elections.
During a meeting held on Tuesday at the command headquarters, State Commissioner of Police Dahiru Muhammad emphasized the need for timely communication between political parties and the police. He urged party leaders to provide formal notice of rallies, processions, and other public gatherings to enable adequate security preparations.
“Our collaboration is vital for maintaining public order and preventing incidents that could disrupt peace,” Muhammad stated.
The Commissioner raised concerns about the potential for violence, underscoring that political activities must not devolve into intimidation. He specifically warned against the use or display of weapons at events and urged against the propagation of inflammatory language, particularly on social media, which can incite conflict.
Additionally, Muhammad condemned the practice of hiring thugs and the use of hard drugs during political gatherings, calling these actions a betrayal of the youth and a significant threat to societal stability.
Leaders of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee responded positively, appreciating the proactive approach taken by the police. They committed to adhering to legal guidelines and pledged to educate their supporters on promoting peaceful and responsible political engagement.
