E-transmission protest: Amaechi engages police in heated exchange at NASS (VIDEO)

Protest at National Assembly Draws Heated Exchange Between Amaechi and Police
A tense confrontation occurred Tuesday at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, where former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi faced off against police officers amid an ongoing protest.
Amaechi participated in the demonstration alongside other activists, vocally challenging security personnel as they sought to voice their concerns. The protest aimed to demand the real-time electronic transmission of election results, a contentious issue following the Senate’s rejection of the proposal during the current electoral reform deliberations.
Dubbed “Occupy the National Assembly,” the event attracted a significant turnout of Nigerian youths, who expressed their dissatisfaction with what they view as a hindrance to credible elections and democratic transparency. Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi joined the protest a day earlier to show solidarity with the call for electoral reforms.
As national discourse increasingly centers around electoral integrity, pressure is mounting on lawmakers to revisit their position regarding the electronic transmission of election results.
