Edo attack: Peter Obi should have informed us before coming – Commissioner

Edo State Commissioner Calls for Communication from Peter Obi
Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi should have notified the state government prior to his recent visit.
Afegbua made this comment during an interview on the program “Politics Today,” aired on Channels Television, where he also addressed a recent attack involving Obi and other leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Reports indicate that there was an assassination attempt on Obi and several ADC members during their time in Edo State, prompting widespread concern and discussion across Nigeria.
In his remarks, Afegbua clarified that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s previous statements requesting Obi to seek clearance before entering the state had been misinterpreted. The commissioner emphasized the importance of communication, particularly for politically significant individuals like Obi.
He remarked, “People misinterpreted what Governor Okpebholo meant when he made the statement in July last year. We would expect that he would extend the courtesy of informing the government of the day.”
Afegbua further noted that the incident involving Obi should be viewed through the lens of internal ADC conflicts, indicating that it stems from competition between different factions within the party.
