Edo State Police Arrest Doctor for Illegal Gun Possession
The Edo State Police Command has arrested Dr. Kingsley Dele, a medical practitioner from Obaretin community, for unlawfully possessing a firearm.
According to a statement from ASP Eno Ikoedem, the Police Public Relations Officer, the arrest took place on February 29. Officers from the Command Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad apprehended Dr. Dele based on credible intelligence.
During the operation, police recovered a Beretta pistol from the suspect. Ikoedem noted that this arrest is part of an ongoing initiative led by Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika to combat the proliferation of illegal weapons, which are often linked to violent crimes in the area.
The Police Command considers illegal firearm possession a serious threat to public safety, regardless of an individual’s profession or status. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect is expected to face charges in court.
Commissioner Agbonika reassured residents of the police’s commitment to maintaining public safety and encouraged community members to continue collaborating with law enforcement by sharing information promptly.
Recent events in Edo State, including a rise in kidnapping incidents, have prompted some residents to take measures for self-defense.
