EFCC arraigns man over alleged N603.4m fake NNPC job scam

EFCC Charges Man with N603.4 Million Fraud Linked to Fake NNPC Job Offer
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought charges against Gidado Ibrahim in connection with an alleged N603.4 million fraud related to a fraudulent job offer at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
According to a statement issued by the agency on Monday, Ibrahim was arraigned on February 9, 2026, before Justice H. Muazu at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja. His alleged accomplice, Halimat Adenike Tejusho, is currently at large.
In a post on social media platform X, the EFCC revealed that Ibrahim faces an amended six-count charge that includes allegations of fraud, obtaining money under false pretenses, and forgery. Prosecutors claim that between August and October 2024, Ibrahim and Tejusho collected N603.4 million from a woman named Oluseye Yomi-Sholoye, falsely claiming they could facilitate her appointment as the Group Managing Director of NNPC.
One of the charges alleges that Ibrahim “obtained the sum of N603,400,000 under the false pretenses” of securing the NNPC position, which the EFCC asserts was a deliberate fabrication. Another allegation states that Ibrahim used a forged document labeled “Presidential Villa State House, Office of the National Security Adviser,” presenting it as legitimate despite knowing it was counterfeit.
Upon the reading of the charges, Ibrahim pleaded not guilty to all counts. The prosecution, represented by Y. Tarfa, requested a trial date and sought to have Ibrahim remanded in custody. In response, defense attorney B. B. Alhaji informed the court that a bail application had been filed, though it was not yet ready for a hearing. Alhaji emphasized that Ibrahim should remain in EFCC custody due to health issues while awaiting the court’s decision.
Justice Muazu adjourned the case until February 17, 2026, for a bail hearing and ordered Ibrahim to be held at the Kuje Correctional Facility in the interim.
