EFCC Arrests Maiduguri Socialites for Naira Mutilation
MAIDUGURI, Nigeria – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended three socialites in Maiduguri in connection with alleged mutilation of Naira currency notes.
Dele Oyewale, spokesperson for the EFCC, announced the arrests in a statement released Wednesday in Abuja. The individuals were taken into custody following the circulation of a viral video on social media, which showed them spraying and defacing Naira notes during a social event.
“Based on intelligence gathered, the commission was able to trace and arrest the suspects in Maiduguri, Borno State,” Oyewale said. He added that the suspects are currently under investigation and will face charges in court once the inquiry is complete.
