El-Rufai: Every kobo will be returned to Kaduna treasury – Shehu Sani

Former Senator Pledges to Recover Misappropriated Funds in Kaduna

KADUNA, Nigeria — Shehu Sani, a former senator representing Kaduna Central, has committed to recovering any funds illegally taken from the Kaduna State treasury during the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

In a briefing with reporters over the weekend, Sani, a noted human rights activist, stressed the importance of returning all misappropriated state funds. He stated, “We will do everything in our power to ensure that every kobo looted from Kaduna State is returned to the government treasury.”

Sani specifically criticized a $350 million loan taken out by El-Rufai’s administration, asserting that it was mismanaged, resulting in only a handful of projects completed in Kaduna North Local Government Area. He characterized Kaduna as the second most indebted state in Nigeria.

Reflecting on El-Rufai’s tenure, Sani described it as a period marked by “tyranny and blatant abuse of the rule of law,” emphasizing the need to restore rights violated under the previous administration.

Looking ahead, Sani expressed confidence in the prospects for Governor Uba Sani and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections. He conveyed a commitment to support their re-elections, stating, “We are sending a clear message that we will work tirelessly to see to the re-election of Uba Sani as governor and Bola Tinubu as president.”

Additionally, Sani urged for the 2027 election to respect the principle of zoning, advocating that the decision regarding candidacy should be left to Southern Nigeria. He reiterated his call for the ruling party to honor the rotation of power, asserting that it is “fair and just” following the presidency of former leader Muhammadu Buhari, who served for eight years.
