Electronic transmission: Protest should not be Peter Obi thing – Sambo

Director of News at Arise Television Calls for Greater Opposition Involvement in Electoral Protest

Director of News at Arise Television, Sumner Sambo, has called on more opposition leaders to participate in the ongoing protests against amendments to the Electoral Act.

In an interview on the program “Prime Time,” which aired Monday and was monitored by DAILY POST, Sambo emphasized the need for a broader coalition among opposition figures, urging that the demonstrations should not be solely associated with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

DAILY POST notes that Obi participated in the “Occupy National Assembly” protest earlier that day, which was organized to oppose the Senate’s rejection of electronic transmission of election results.

Sambo remarked on the current climate, stating, “If you look at what they are doing, it’s akin to what happened prior to 2014 and close to 2015, when figures like Buhari and El-Rufai rallied against the actions of the PDP while they were in power.”

He expressed confidence that if President Tinubu were in opposition, he would likely be part of the protests. “What they did today is actually what’s expected of them,” he added.

Sambo further lamented the lack of participation from other opposition leaders, questioning, “Where was Atiku? Are they really serious about this, or are they just mouthing it because citizens want it?” He called for the opposition to become more active, asserting, “These individuals currently in government would not have been at ease if the roles were reversed.”
