Shearer contends that Woltemade’s performance has not aligned with manager Eddie Howe’s tactical strategy, highlighting a struggle to make a meaningful impact during the match against the Premier League champions.
“Clearly, Woltemade is an issue for Newcastle United,” Shearer stated in a segment on Premier League Productions. “The significant investment—close to £70 million—combined with the decision to position Gordon as a center-forward indicates he has not met expectations in that role.”
Shearer further pointed to a critical moment in the match when Woltemade’s pressing effort failed, leading to Manchester City’s second goal. “When he attempted to press, he was easily beaten,” Shearer added. “He is a concern for Newcastle.”
