EPL: Van Dijk second-highest goal-scoring central defender behind John Terry

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk Climbs Premier League Goal Rankings
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has reached a significant milestone in his Premier League career, scoring a total of 28 goals. This achievement positions him as the second-highest goal-scoring central defender in the league’s history, not including penalty goals.
The only player with a higher tally is former Chelsea captain John Terry, who scored 41 goals during his career, as reported by OptaJoe. Van Dijk added to his count during Liverpool’s 5-2 victory against West Ham United on Saturday.
At 34 years old, Van Dijk is looking to surpass Terry’s record in the near future. Since joining Liverpool from Southampton in 2018, he has made a notable impact, helping the club secure both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles.
Van Dijk’s next opportunity to add to his goal tally will come when Liverpool faces Wolverhampton Wanderers in their upcoming Premier League match on Tuesday.
