Family of Plateau student murdered in South Africa seeks help to repatriate body

Family Seeks Financial Assistance for Burial of Nigerian Student Murdered in South Africa

The family of Isaac Satla, a 22-year-old student from Plateau State, is urgently seeking financial support to repatriate his remains from South Africa to Nigeria for burial. Satla was reportedly murdered last week after being abducted by two passengers who requested his e-hailing service. His body, along with a stolen vehicle, was discovered in Atteridgeville, located in the Gauteng Province of Pretoria.

Following the arrest of the suspects by South African authorities, Satla’s family faces the daunting task of raising funds needed to transport his body back to Jos, where they intend to lay him to rest.

Otila Onaja, a family spokesman and uncle of the deceased, discussed the family’s plight in an interview with eNCA. He expressed their deep grief, compounded by the financial burden of returning Satla home.

“We need funds to take him back home so that he can be laid to rest,” Onaja stated. He emphasized the heartbreaking nature of Satla’s death and called for increased safety for individuals in similar jobs.

Describing Isaac as the “shining light” of the family, Onaja noted that Satla traveled to South Africa seeking better opportunities while pursuing a degree in mobile engineering. He was scheduled to graduate next month.

“Isaac was a peaceful person, very respectful,” Onaja said. “He loved cars and was friendly; everyone loved him. He was a champion for his friends.”

Onaja expressed the family’s shock at the brutality of Satla’s death, particularly given that he was merely doing his job.

“We are calling on the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, the government, members of the Nigerian community in South Africa, well-wishers, and the public to assist in ensuring Isaac receives a dignified burial in his homeland,” he added.

The family is striving to honor Satla’s memory and bring him back to his roots, underscoring the need for support during this tragic time.
