Tear Gas Disrupts Voting at Kuje Polling Unit

Kuje, Nigeria — Tear gas was reportedly deployed at the Kuchaku polling unit on Saturday, coinciding with the start of ballot counting. The incident sparked panic among voters and interrupted the collation of results.

A video circulating on social media features a voter claiming that armed individuals associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) invaded the polling site, seizing election materials, including the results sheet for the councillorship election. The voter indicated that the armed men arrived as officials were finalizing the results, discharged tear gas, and fled with the documents.

“The APC came with armed gunmen to take our result sheet that we were computing just now and went with it. They tear-gassed everybody,” the voter stated in the video.

Witnesses noted that officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigeria Police Force were present at the polling unit during the incident.

Following the discharge of tear gas, several voters reportedly fled the area, causing confusion and momentarily halting the counting process.
