FCT council elections: Wike hails Tinubu, says Nigerians now know ruling, real opposition party

FCT Minister Praises Tinubu for Peaceful Area Council Elections
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the peaceful conduct of the Area Council elections held on Saturday. In his remarks, Wike emphasized that the election results clarified the distinction between the ruling party and the genuine opposition in Nigeria.
In a televised address on Sunday evening, Wike characterized the election as a demonstration of the FCT residents’ dedication to democratic principles and good governance. He expressed gratitude to the electorate for their participation, highlighting it as a commitment to a trustworthy democratic process under Tinubu’s leadership.
Wike criticized individuals who engage in deceptive campaign practices, asserting that the electorate demonstrated resilience against “emergency democrats” who fail to appreciate the positive developments in the country. He expressed appreciation for the progress made in the FCT, attributing it to President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which he claimed has instilled optimism among residents.
The Minister stated, “The peaceful conduct of the election is a testament to the commitment of the people of the FCT to democracy and good governance.” He also commended all candidates for participating, reiterating their role in ensuring that minority voices are represented in the electoral process.
Wike congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for their successes in the elections, stating that the results indicate a clearer understanding among Nigerians of the political landscape.
He expressed praise for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for organizing a transparent election and acknowledged the security agencies for maintaining order throughout the voting process.
Addressing the newly elected officials, Wike urged them to fulfill their mandates with humility and dedication, emphasizing the importance of improving living standards in their communities. He also encouraged FCT residents to continue supporting the government’s initiatives aimed at fostering a better and more developed territory, affirming the administration’s commitment to delivering the benefits of democracy as outlined in the President’s agenda.
