Finding wiretapping equipment in El-Rufai’s house not surprising – Ayekooto

Allegations of Wiretapping Equipment Found at Former Kaduna Governor’s Residence

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, expressed that the purported discovery of wiretapping equipment at the residence of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai should not be surprising.
Reports surfaced indicating that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had recovered suspected wiretapping equipment from El-Rufai’s Abuja home. The equipment is alleged to be capable of intercepting private conversations and obtaining sensitive security documents.
However, El-Rufai’s family issued a statement on Monday denying these claims, asserting that no such equipment was found at their residence.
In response to the situation, Akindele took to social media platform X, stating that the allegations should not come as a shock, referencing previous comments made by El-Rufai. He noted that El-Rufai had openly admitted during an interview on AriseTV that his administration monitored communications related to the National Security Advisor.
“There’s no point for anyone saying that no wiretapping equipment was found in El-Rufai’s house,” Akindele said. He further emphasized that allegations from the ICPC should not be dismissed as unfounded.
The ongoing discourse highlights the complex dynamics surrounding the former governor and national security practices in Nigeria.
