Fire razes over 10 shops in Plateau

Fire Destroys Shops at Terminus Market in Jos
JOS, Nigeria — A fire erupted Saturday night at Terminus Market, destroying more than ten shops shortly after trading concluded for the day. The blaze broke out around 10 p.m., rendering many businesses, especially those selling clothing and footwear, completely inoperative.
Market authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. Some affected traders have suggested that an electrical fault may have been to blame.
Firefighters and emergency responders were able to contain the situation swiftly, preventing the fire from spreading further. A source reported that teams from the National Emergency Management Agency, Plateau State Emergency Management Agency, Federal Fire Service, and Plateau State Fire Service collaborated effectively to manage the response.
“The coordination and rapid response helped contain the flames, limiting damage and preventing the fire from spreading across the busy commercial hub,” the source said.
This incident follows a similar fire at the market three months ago. In the past year, Terminus Market has experienced three separate fires, resulting in significant losses for traders, with damages amounting to millions of naira.
