Five killed, house razed in cross-border attack on Benue community

Gunmen Attack Azoke Village, Leaving Five Dead
Ado Local Government Area, Benue State — Five individuals were killed when gunmen attacked Azoke village and set fire to a residential building during a nighttime raid on February 19.
Local sources report that the assault occurred around 9:00 p.m. The attackers are believed to have originated from the Akparata community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The deceased have been identified as Nwefuru Elu, Nwefuru Agnes, Nwali Nworie Christianana, Obasi Nwode, and Nwozo Nwode.
During the incident, the assailants reportedly set fire to a house owned by Elumu Nwokwo, further heightening fear among residents.
In response to the attack, security operatives arrived at the scene following a distress call. They conducted an assessment and began gathering preliminary evidence for an investigation.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the attack.
Community members are urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, as efforts to prevent further violence are being intensified.
