Four k!lled as gunmen attack Plateau mining site

Four youths have been k!lled in an attack by gunmen at a mining site in the Butura community of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State. The incident occurred on Friday night, with the attackers striking at approximately 9 pm.

According to the President of the Butura Youth Movement, Sabastine Magit, the victims were working at the site when the gunmen, speaking the Fulani dialect, opened fire, k!lling four individuals on the spot and injuring five others.

Magit confirmed the names of the deceased as Bwefuk Musa, 21; Klingshak Dickson, 21; Promise Joshua, 20; and Nyam Abaka, 20.

“In yet another unprovoked assault on members of the Butura community, armed terrorists opened fire on innocent youths working at a mining site near the villages of Kuba and Maikatako in Bokkos LGA,” Magit said in a statement on Saturday, October 12.

“This attack occurred just four days after a tragic incident in the village of Wumat, where five members of a family, including a pregnant mother, lost their lives.”

Magit added that the attackers fled the scene before military personnel stationed nearby could respond. This latest attack is part of a troubling pattern, as over 20 individuals from the Butura community have been killed in the last month alone, allegedly by Fulani assailants.

The injured victims are receiving medical treatment, while local authorities and security forces have been alerted as tensions remain high in the area following the attack.
