Four SEC student-athletes highlight the 2022 Academic All-America® men’s at-large teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Academic All-America team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The men’s at-large team includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo, volleyball and wrestling. Each school is also limited to just four nominees.
Mississippi State golfer Ford Clegg, Alabama swimmers Derek Maas and Nicholas Perera all boost 4.00 GPAs and are repeat members of the first-team Academic All-American team. They’re joined by South Carolina tennis player Daniel Rodrigues on second team.
Clegg graduated in May with a degree in finance, posting a cumulative 4.0 GPA, and has been named a Presidential Scholar in every semester of collegiate career. He started in every tournament this season and has shot par or better in 14 rounds.
Maas, an All-American and SEC Champion, graduated with a 4.0 GPA in biology on the premed track in May. Maas was part of UA’s 200 medley relay team that finished in fifth place at the NCAA Championships.
Perera earned his undergraduate 4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering. In 202, he earned All-America honors in the 400 individual medley.
Rodrigues completed his degree in psychology this spring and graduated with the highest GPA on the men’s tennis team. He finished the season as an ITA All-American in both singles in doubles following his run at the NCAA Tournament.
