Ganduje Assesses Fire Damage at Murtala Muhammed International Airport

LAGOS — Abdullahi Ganduje, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), evaluated the damage caused by a recent fire at Terminal One of Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Thursday.

Accompanied by members of the Board, Ganduje addressed reporters and acknowledged the serious nature of the incident, emphasizing FAAN’s core commitment to safety. He noted that the fire posed risks not only to the airport’s infrastructure but also to employees and passengers.

“We decided to come here to see the damage firsthand; seeing is believing,” he said. “While the damage is significant, we must recognize the efforts of Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku and her management team, as well as the over 150 firefighters who worked tirelessly until the fire was fully extinguished.”

Ganduje confirmed that no fatalities occurred as a result of the blaze, though several critical pieces of equipment were destroyed. He stated that the situation is now under control, despite the unfortunate nature of the event.

“We have not yet received a complete report on the incident, but we are confident that the staff are managing the situation effectively,” he added.

During his visit, Ganduje also took the opportunity to review ongoing improvements at the airport, including the remodeling of a temporary terminal. “The quality of work is impressive, and the renovations reflect a standard that rivals international airports,” he remarked.

He concluded his visit by expressing gratitude to all involved in responding to the fire and to the media for their coverage of the situation.
