Chanel Maya Banks, known for her role in “Gossip Girl,” has filed a restraining order against her mother, Lutchmin Judy Kumar, and cousin, Danielle Singh. This follows her family’s earlier claims that she was missing—a claim Banks later refuted on social media.
In the legal filing on Thursday, December 26, Banks alleged that her mother and cousin have harassed her and attempted to damage her reputation. She claimed they have been persistently contacting her despite her request for space since October. Banks also stated that the pair called Los Angeles police to report her as missing, leading to a wellness check, even after her husband, Carlos, assured them she was safe and didn’t want to engage with them.
Banks further alleged her mother and cousin broke into her apartment on November 10 while she was away, assaulted her husband, stole his work badge, and planted an Apple AirTag on her car to monitor her movements. She reported these incidents to the police and claimed to have text evidence of threats to involve law enforcement against her.
According to Banks, her mother and cousin escalated the situation by accusing her husband of murder and suggesting she should be placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold. She is now asking the court to prohibit Lutchmin and Danielle from contacting her or discussing her publicly.
Banks’ family, however, denies all allegations. Sources close to them insist they never assaulted Carlos and that any injuries he had predated their visit. They also expressed disinterest in reconciling with Banks, criticizing her for what they describe as ungratefulness, despite their efforts to ensure her safety.
The controversy began in November when Banks’ family reported her as missing. Shortly afterwards, she was located unharmed by LAPD and explained in a now-deleted Instagram post that she had traveled to Texas to be baptized by her favourite pastor.
While the family maintains they are relieved Banks is safe, they have decided to move forward without further engagement.
