Yobe Governor Urges Increased Security for Eid el-Fitr Celebrations
DAMATURU, Yobe – Governor Mai Mala Buni has instructed security agencies to implement proactive measures to ensure the safety of citizens during the upcoming Eid el-Fitr celebrations.
During an expanded security meeting on Monday, conducted in Damaturu and led by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, Buni emphasized the importance of a visible security presence across the state’s 17 local government areas. He called for enhanced surveillance, particularly along border communities.
“In a bid to curb insecurity, we must enhance intelligence-led patrols and foster synergy among security formations to prevent criminal elements from exploiting the festive period,” Buni stated.
Following the meeting, Yobe State Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ado briefed reporters on the discussions, which included a review of recent security incidents in neighboring states and an assessment of local vulnerabilities.
Ado announced a ban on vehicles without number plates or those with obscured plates, labeling them a potential security risk. He characterized the overall security situation in Yobe as relatively calm but assured residents that comprehensive measures are in place for a safe Sallah celebration.
