Ebonyi Governor Urges Investigation into Traditional Ruler’s Abduction and Murder
EBONYI STATE, Nigeria — Governor Francis Nwifuru has called on security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abduction and murder of Eze Francis Igwe, the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike.
Eze Igwe, who was also the father of former deputy governor Kelechi Igwe, was abducted on Sunday while en route to church. In response to this tragedy, Governor Nwifuru canceled a scheduled Executive Council meeting and visited the late monarch’s palace to offer condolences to the family.
During his visit, Nwifuru announced that police have arrested several suspects linked to the crime and expressed his commitment to ensuring that all those responsible are brought to justice. He commemorated the deceased as an accomplished elder statesman and a dedicated leader who served his community with honor.
The governor’s remarks were included in a statement released on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, and disseminated to journalists in Abakaliki. Nwifuru expressed his condolences to the Ikwo Noyo clan, urging the family to find strength in this difficult time.
Barr. Kelechi Igwe, the eldest son of the deceased monarch, expressed gratitude for the governor’s efforts to secure their father’s release, stating, “Though our father is not here today to appreciate you, his entire family will remain eternally grateful for your efforts.”
