Greg James from Radio 1 surprises the crowd by taking the stage during Coldplay’s final Wembley gig

Greg James is one lucky bugger after managing to make it on-stage at Wembley before Coldplay themselves. 

The Paradise hitmakers – featuring Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion – have been entertaining thousands of fans at London’s Wembley Stadium on a six-night run as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour.

It’s been a cracking residency so far with the likes of Craig David, Natalie Imbruglia and even Alan Partridge joining the rock band as surprise guests during the shows.

They may have saved the best until last with BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg appearing during Coldplay’s final night at Wembley on Sunday.

Concert-goers shared photos on social media of Greg, 36, doing the honours of introducing Coldplay to the stage and, needless to say, his fans were loving his surprise cameo.

Another joined in: ‘I love Greg what a great start.’

‘@gregjames give Chris a hug for me,’ one fan quipped.

It comes after actor and comedian Steve Coogan surprised the mass audience when he joined the band in character as Alan Partridge to sing Kate Bush and Abba hits on Saturday night.

The 56-year-old commanded the stage beside frontman Chris to belt out Bush’s iconic hit Running Up That Hill, as well as Abba’s Knowing Me, Knowing You.

Partridge hilariously wore a red satin jacket with the words ‘Snow Patrol’ on the back.

He told the crowd: ‘Running up hills, up roads – it’s all cardiovascular. Not sure about running up buildings, unless you’re Spider-Man – excellent humour!

‘Chris, what do you think the song’s about, because it can’t just be about running?’

The 45-year-old singer replied it was about overcoming problems, to which Coogan said: ‘It’s a metaphor, got it.’

Coldplay’s Wembley run has been eventful so far, with Chris asking fans to put their phones away, while also paying tribute to his ‘old friend’ and Pop Idol star Darius Campbell Danesh, who died earlier this month.
