Disruption at Empowerment Program in Kwara State

Oke-Onigbin, Kwara State — An empowerment program organized by Chief Adejoke Mistura Adeyemi was disrupted on Saturday when unidentified youths and women stormed the event, causing chaos and stealing food supplies intended for participants.

The initiative aimed to assist residents from four local government areas: Isin, Oke-Ero, Ekiti, and Irepodun. The program included the distribution of several valuable items, including 10 cars, one Bajaj motorcycle, 10 chest freezers, 20 grinding machines, 10 hairstyle dryers, four makeup tools, 10 generator sets, and 30 sewing machines.

Despite the successful distribution of these items, confusion erupted when the intruders seized large quantities of 5-kilogram bags of rice that were set aside for other beneficiaries. Security personnel at the event, which included soldiers, police officers, Civil Defence Corps members, Road Safety officials, and local hunters, reportedly struggled to control the situation.

Key figures in attendance included Hon. Jolayemi Benjamen, Hon. Rasaki Omotosho, and Segun Adebayo, along with local traditional rulers such as Oba Olómù of Omu Aran, Oba Kalmadeen Salawudeen Onigbin of Oke-Onigbin, Oba Omotayo, Onigbesi of Igbésí, and the Oniwo of Oke Aba.

Authorities confirmed that no casualties occurred during the incident.
