Group kicks as reps member donates SUV to APC chieftain

Oluyole Group Criticizes SUV Donation by Local Lawmaker

The Oluyole Progressive Force (OPF) has expressed disapproval of a recent donation made by Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, the House of Representatives member for Oluyole Federal Constituency. The lawmaker gifted a Lexus RX 300 luxury SUV to Alhaji Razak Akilapa, an esteemed leader within her party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), during a celebration for Akilapa’s 85th birthday.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, OPF characterized the donation as a “misplaced priority.” The comments came from a statement signed by the group’s Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Shodimu, and Secretary, Esther Tolase.

The group highlighted the pressing needs of constituents, stating that the funds used for the luxury vehicle could have been better allocated to improve the lives of numerous residents. “This is absurd and unreasonable. If they are earning substantial amounts in the House of Representatives, wisdom dictates that those resources should be used to enhance the lives of constituents, rather than on luxury items,” the statement read.

In their assessment, the OPF argued that the resources spent on the vehicle, estimated at 15 million naira, could have provided meaningful support to many families in the constituency and stimulated local economic activities. Instead, they noted, the funds went toward a gift for a single individual.

Additionally, the OPF criticized Akande-Sadipe for prioritizing personal interests over community needs. They pointed out ongoing complaints from residents about the poor condition of the road leading to Olomi Primary School, where weekly APC meetings are held. According to the group, the road has been in a state of disrepair for more than a decade, making it increasingly difficult for residents and traders.
