It’s funny that the new CHANEL No1 Fragrance Mist is fruity up top and in a red bottle because I’d say it’s not too far away from a dilute of Absolute. The position I have now – and had in 2018 – is that it’s really nothing like the original Gucci Guilty. In 2018, that was a problem, but now, in 2022, it’s not a problem because I’m further away from having smelled Guilty and therefore not so invested in it being the same. Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Femme is a juicy scent – blackberry notes hit first – with wrappings of rose and patchouli. It’s a sumptuous, voluptuous fragrance that has the intensity and drama of an oud but without the oud.
Fragrance is still a popular Valentine’s Day gift although when I write here I feel it’s for people who don’t wait to be given perfume but are fully in charge of their own scent. Actually, as an aside, I get a lot of PR emails this time of year with Valentine’s ideas ranging from hair towels and facial hair bleach (not joking) to whitening toothpastes and heart shaped tea bags, which quite frankly makes me grateful for fragrance ideas! So, if we’re taking romance and seduction as the messaging, Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Femme does fit the bill – it’s really a deliciously kiss-me, rose fuelled perfume that gets more creamy and smooth as the wear goes on. There are wood notes and a dot of vetiver to cut through the fruity florals and a little goes a long way. It’s £54 at The Perfume Shop HERE (it was £49 in 2018).
