Gun Pies pair earn surprise Christmas contracts

As AFL clubs pause for the holiday period, Collingwood has snuck in the key signings of stalwarts Jack Crisp and Brody Mihocek.

Both signed to new, multi-year deals, Crisp has passed up free agency to ink a three-year deal while Mihocek has committed to the club for a further two seasons.

Crisp enjoyed an impressive 2022 campaign, earning his second consecutive club best and fairest honour and selection into the All-Australian squad of 44.

The midfielder notched 200 games during this year’s finals series after he was traded to Collingwood ahead of the 2014 national draft in a deal that saw Dayne Beams depart for Brisbane.

Known for his steadfastness, Crisp has played 188 consecutive senior games – the most for any active player in the league.

Meanwhile, Mihocek has signed his third contract with the club since Collingwood used its second selection in the 2017 rookie draft to take Mihocek with pick 22.

Despite being drafted as a VFL premiership-winning defender, Mihocek was the club’s leading goal-kicker for the fourth consecutive season after booting 41 majors in 2022.

The 29-year-old also celebrated also his 100th game milestone game during the Pies’ remarkable finals run.

Collingwood’s general manager of football Graham Wright said the club was pleased to lock down the pair.

“We are really pleased to have Brody and Jack sign new deals that will see them remain at the club until the end of 2025 and 2026, respectively,” he said.

“Both players have proven to be consistent performers and, particularly over the past few years, have played a key role in our side’s success.

“Jack has not only been highly durable but a highly consistent elite-level performer for our club – he has elite training standards and has really developed as a leader in our midfield and amongst the wider program.

“Brody is a model teammate on and off the field with his work ethic, courage and selflessness setting him apart.”
