Gunmen storm estate, seize couple, shoot one in Ondo

Couple Abducted in Ondo State Community Amid Rising Insecurity
Gunmen suspected of being kidnappers have abducted a couple from their home in the Iluabo community, located in the Akure North Local Council Area of Ondo State. The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Friday at Olaribigba Estate when the assailants ambushed Mr. Jamiu Olawale and his wife shortly after they arrived in an ash-coloured Toyota Camry.
This event has heightened tensions within the agrarian community, prompting residents to protest and block roads in response to ongoing kidnappings and a general sense of insecurity.
During the attack, a neighbor of the Olawales, Patrick Ilumaro, was shot while trying to escape the scene. He has been transported to an undisclosed medical facility and is currently receiving treatment.
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the incident and stated that both tactical teams and conventional operatives have been dispatched to the area. In a statement from Police Public Relations Officer Abayomi Jimoh, officials are actively searching for the victims and working to apprehend those responsible.
“Concerted efforts are ongoing to ensure the safe return of the abducted persons and bring those responsible to justice,” Jimoh said. He urged community members to remain calm and to continue with their daily activities. The police also encouraged residents to report any relevant information to the nearest station to assist in the investigation.
