Headies is not Hisbah, Organisers should stick to judging talent - Journalist Michael Abimboye reacts to Portable

Michael Abimboye is the latest Journalist to speak out against singer Portable’s disqualification from the 2022 Headies awards.

On Tuesday, July 27, the organizers of the 2022 Headies Award disqualified singer Portable over the death threat to kill co-nominees and controversial claims that he formed ‘One Million Boys’ (Read previous here and here.)

Reacting to the decision to disqualify Portable as a nominee at the forthcoming 15th Headies Awards, after bagging two nominations, ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste,’  Abimboye urged the organisers to stick to judging nominees by their talents and not their characters or empty words.

He also said organisers should have waited for the outcome of the police investigation before the hash decision, which he described as “unfair.”

He wrote: “Headies no be Hisbah. It should stick to judging talent and not character, actions and words. Why not wait for the outcome of the police investigation? What if he’s clean and was just jam-talking? I think it’s unfair what is done to Portable. #Portable #Headies.”
