Here’s The Stark Difference Between How Media Treated Hunter’s Laptop And The Steele Dossier

New York Post reporter Jon Levine posted a thread showing the comparative media coverage of the Steele dossier, which launched the Russiagate hoax, and Hunter Biden’s laptop at major outlets.

As the Political Insider wrote, the New York Times on Thursday published a story on Hunter Biden’s tax bill and the federal investigation into his business dealings which “authenticated” emails from his infamous laptop.

Prior to the election and even many months later, the mainstream media refused to acknowledge the legitimacy of Hunter’s laptop.

By contrast, the Steele dossier and its salacious allegations against former President Trump has since been labeled by Axios as an “epic fail” by the media and led to the Washington Post quietly editing their past reports on it after a second key player in the dossier’s ‘research’ had been arrested.

Levine’s thread is a solid visual representation of the media’s exuberance in reporting on an unverified dossier that would negatively reflect on Trump, and their utter lack of curiosity in reporting on the existence of a laptop that would negatively reflect on Biden.

Media Coverage of Steele Dossier Versus Hunter Biden’s Laptop

Levine begins delivering his media comeuppance by targeting Vanity Fair, who suggested in 2018 that Trump’s alibi regarding the “pee tape” was falling apart and he “continues to bend over backward for his friends in mother Russia.”

On Hunter’s laptop, they write about the “supposed ‘smoking gun’” and suggest the story “reeks.”

The thread continues with multiple CNN articles lending credence to the Steele dossier story but labeling the laptop story as “dubious.”

Perhaps the most devastating example involves NPR, who very publicly explained why they refused to run the Hunter Biden story despite all signs pointing to its legitimacy early on.

“We don’t want to waste our time on stories that are not really stories, and we don’t want to waste the listeners’ and readers’ time on stories that are just pure distractions,” NPR Managing Editor for News Terence Samuel said when the laptop first surfaced.

“And quite frankly, that’s where we ended up, this was … a politically driven event and we decided to treat it that way.”

NPR is taxpayer-funded. They refused to provide taxpayers and voters with vital information during a consequential election. They scoffed at a very legitimate news story as a ‘waste of time.’

They should never again be treated as a fair and honest source of news.

Potentially Changed the Election

Levine also goes after Slate, Politico, Vice, and The Daily Beast, showing examples of their blatant bias on the two comparable issues.

He also adds the New York Times, who ran an opinion column on the “tape” but denounced the Hunter Biden laptop story as a “last-ditch effort to change the narrative” on the election.

It’s too bad the Times didn’t have the integrity to pursue a last-ditch effort to provide the truth to the American people.

One other addition should involve Ben Smith, former editor-in-chief of Buzzfeed News, who published the entire Steele dossier without concern in 2017.

Smith defended the move. He later became a media columnist at the New York Times. Seems like they have a close source to question why the media ignored Hunter’s laptop and ran with a tabloid-level dossier. 

Maybe now is the time to change the narrative, or rather the truth, that the media is a biased arm of the White House.

President Trump on Friday issued a statement blasting the New York Times for their role in covering up the laptop story for almost 17 months.

“The New York Times just admitted that it participated in an effort to rig the election for Joe Biden,” he said.

Post columnist Michael Goodwin said of their own coverage of the laptop: “The Post told you so.”

Goodwin writes that “the Times was part of the Big Government, Big Tech and Big Media cabal that tried to hide those emails from the public during the 2020 presidential election.”

No reasonable person can deny that fact any longer.
