Here’s what to watch in the Senate today.

The Senate is scheduled to hold a procedural vote on Wednesday afternoon on a bill that would enshrine abortion rights in federal law. Here’s a look at how the proceedings are expected to unfold:

Around 2:30 p.m., the Senate is set to hold a series of three votes. The first is to confirm a nominee to the Federal Trade Commission, and the third is a procedural vote for a nominee to the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The middle vote is the highly anticipated one on abortion rights: a procedural vote on a bill known as the Women’s Health Protection Act.

The measure is all but certain to be blocked, with supporters falling far short of the 60 votes needed for it to pass. But the vote will force Republicans to go on the record against the legislation, which Democrats hope to use against the party in the midterm elections this fall.
