Nigerian Rapper Superboy Cheque Discusses Battle with Acne and Its Impact on His Career

LAGOS, Nigeria — Nigerian rapper and singer Superboy Cheque recently spoke about his struggles with acne and how it affected his self-esteem during an interview with Yanga FM.

Cheque recalled that his battle with acne nearly led him to abandon his music career. In his efforts to resolve the condition, he purchased a makeup product that ultimately caused significant skin damage.

“I struggled with acne years back. It was terrible,” Cheque said. “My desperation to cure it led me to buy a makeup that almost disfigured my face. It was embarrassing. I almost quit music. I couldn’t even approach women then.”

The artist noted that following the success of his breakout song “Zoom” and his subsequent signing to a record label, he realized he would be in the public eye more frequently. As a perfectionist, he sought out products to improve his appearance but faced disappointment.

“I woke up one morning and realized that my whole face has been damaged,” he added.

Cheque also revealed that this challenging experience inspired his hit song “History,” featuring fellow artist Fireboy DML. He explained that his battle with acne not only impacted his music but also his social life and comfort in front of cameras.
