‘I only post on X’ — Okonjo-Iweala warns against fake social media videos

WTO Director-General Alerts Public to Fake Video

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, has issued a warning about a fake video circulating online that has been manipulated using artificial intelligence.

In a public statement, Okonjo-Iweala urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, emphasizing that the video, which erroneously features her likeness, is not authentic. The relevant authorities are currently investigating the matter.

“Just alerting Nigerians. Another fake AI-manipulated video. The authorities are handling it. Just wanted to alert you to be aware of this,” she said.

The former Nigerian Minister of Finance also reiterated that she does not maintain accounts on popular social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp. Any content appearing under her name on these sites should be considered fraudulent.

“As I repeatedly said, I never post anything on Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp. Anything emanating from these sources with my image is not from me. I only post on Twitter/X. I just don’t want people to be duped,” she added.
