ICPC ignoring El-Rufai’s bail request – Aide raises alarm

Former Kaduna Governor Remains in Detention as Bail Application Awaits Action
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai remains in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) as his bail application has yet to be addressed, according to his media aide.
Muyiwa Adekeye stated that it has been eight days since El-Rufai appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 16, 2026. Following his initial detention by the EFCC, he was transferred to ICPC custody two days later.
Adekeye emphasized that, despite submitting a formal bail request following the interrogation, the former governor’s legal team has not received any response from the commission. He pointed out that no remand order has been presented to justify El-Rufai’s continued detention, and the 48-hour constitutional limit to hold a suspect without charge has elapsed.
In a separate matter, El-Rufai has challenged the legality of a search conducted at his Abuja residence by ICPC officials, labeling the action as a violation of his rights. He is seeking a court ruling to invalidate the warrant used for the search.
The legal proceedings surrounding El-Rufai’s detention, bail application, and associated allegations are ongoing.
