I’ll work with you – Wike assures new FCT council chairmen

Minister Wike Commits to Collaboration with Newly Elected FCT Council Leaders
ABUJA — Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), announced plans to work closely with the six newly elected Area Council chairmen during a meeting on Wednesday in his office. This meeting took place ahead of the council leaders’ forthcoming swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for June.
Wike emphasized that political differences should not hinder developmental progress in the capital. He characterized the partnership between his administration and the incoming council officials as a “rainbow coalition.”
“Congratulations to all the newly elected chairmen. You have worked diligently to secure this opportunity, and we look forward to collaborating with you,” Wike stated.
The minister underscored the importance of good governance, noting the necessity for cooperation among various political groups. He highlighted the inclusive nature of the FCT Administration, which has traditionally incorporated members from different political parties.
“Regardless of party affiliation, our focus must remain on collaboration. Since I took office, we have consistently worked together, which has resulted in positive outcomes,” he said.
Wike also indicated that support from President Muhammadu Buhari played a crucial role in the success of the candidates aligned with him. He noted that even those from opposing parties who support the President will contribute to the coalition in the FCT.
He urged the newly elected chairmen to prepare for their roles, assuring them of his government’s support as they embark on their duties. Wike expressed appreciation for the outgoing council leaders and offered his best wishes for their future endeavors.
“Once you are sworn in, we will begin our collaborative efforts to advance the councils,” he stated. “The backing that Mr. President has provided you carries an obligation to deliver effective governance to the people.”
