Imo State Police Arrest Two Armed Robbery Suspects

Owerri, Imo State — Officers from the Imo State Police Command have apprehended two individuals suspected of armed robbery and recovered a pistol along with seven rounds of live ammunition. The arrests occurred following a swift response to a distress call regarding an armed robbery incident in the Aladinma area of Owerri.

According to a statement from police spokesperson Henry Okoye, the suspects have been identified as 29-year-old Solomon Ejekwe from Ubaha Orodo in Mbaitoli Local Government Area and 35-year-old Emeka Charles from Umuopara Ngugo in Ikeduru Local Government Area. The operatives of Orji Divisional Headquarters conducted the arrests in collaboration with the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

The police response was prompted by reports from the public that an individual was being robbed at a car wash in the Mangrove area of Aladinma. Upon arriving at the scene, officers successfully apprehended the suspects.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was washing his car when the suspects approached and demanded his gold chain at gunpoint. They then attempted to flee on a motorcycle.

In a turn of events, the victim pursued the suspects in his vehicle, managing to hit them. An angry mob subsequently overpowered the suspects before police arrived and took them into custody.

Okoye noted that the suspects have been transferred to the police medical center for treatment of their injuries and will face charges in court as soon as possible.

In response to the incident, State Police Commissioner Audu Garba Bosso commended the prompt actions of his officers and the public’s cooperation. However, he cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing the importance of allowing legal processes to unfold.
