Gulf Region Scrambles Amid Intensifying Iran Conflict

Multiple Gulf nations, alongside Arab states, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan, find themselves increasingly impacted by ongoing military actions linked to the United States-Israel war against Iran.

Reports from Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency indicate that overnight strikes targeted the Financial Harbour Towers commercial complex in Manama, Bahrain, where the Israeli embassy is located.

As the conflict enters its first week, Tehran has responded with retaliatory measures aimed at countries hosting U.S. forces and assets, escalating tensions across the region.

The Reuters news agency reported that an Iranian drone was intercepted and destroyed in the vicinity of the Bahrain complex.

In Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Defense confirmed the interception of a cruise missile east of the central al-Kharj governorate, although further details were not disclosed. The ministry later reported the interception of three drones near the Riyadh region.

In Qatar, air defense forces successfully intercepted a drone attack targeting the Al Udeid Air Base in Doha, which hosts U.S. military facilities. Authorities had previously warned residents to remain indoors and to avoid windows due to elevated security threat levels. Explosions were reported in Doha on Thursday.

European Union leaders have expressed solidarity with Gulf nations facing Iranian attacks. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas engaged in discussions with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) officials in Brussels, condemning what they termed “Iran’s inexcusable attacks against the GCC countries.”

Additionally, air defenses in the Jordanian city of Irb intercepted several drones on Friday, as reported by an Al Jazeera correspondent on the scene.

This unfolding situation continues to draw international attention amid rising regional tensions.
