Drone Attack in Khan Younis Claims Lives of Father and Daughter
KHAN YOUNIS, Gaza — A father and his daughter were killed early Saturday in an Israeli drone strike in central Khan Younis, as violence continues to escalate in the region amid ongoing international focus on the U.S.-Israeli conflict involving Iran. The two fatalities were reported by local sources, with further attacks throughout the day resulting in one additional death and injuries to a young girl.
Israeli forces have been conducting daily airstrikes, artillery shelling, and naval bombardments in Gaza, despite a ceasefire declared on October 11. The Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported two more injuries in the last 48 hours, highlighting the worsening humanitarian crisis as conflict intensifies.
Militias affiliated with the Israeli army have advanced east of Gaza City, where heavy gunfire has been noted. Preliminary reports indicate the abduction of a member of the Palestinian police. Additionally, Israeli warplanes targeted several locations near the Tuffah neighborhood, while artillery from the Israeli navy reportedly fired on coastal areas.
The Rafah border crossing remains closed, having been shut down by Israel amid its military actions. This crossing, which recently reopened for limited medical evacuations, has again restricted passage for many Palestinians in need of medical care, while the Karem Abu Salem crossing remains partially accessible for humanitarian aid under strict regulations.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire, with nearly all of its population of over two million people displaced and reliant on aid. Reports from Human Rights Watch cite Israeli policies as contributing to severe shortages of medicine, food, and water within the enclave.
Since the imposition of the latest ceasefire, 640 Palestinians have been killed, with approximately 1,700 injured, according to the Health Ministry. Overall, at least 72,123 Palestinians have lost their lives since the onset of the conflict in October 2023, with 171,805 injured.
In the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society is treating individuals affected by violence, including a Palestinian shot near the illegal Karmei Tzur settlement in Hebron. Reports also indicate injuries to three Palestinians following assaults by Israeli settlers in the Ras al-Ahmar area, south of Tubas.
Israeli forces conducted raids in the towns of Qaffin and Kafr al-Labad early Saturday, further escalating tensions. A Palestinian man was injured in an altercation with Israeli soldiers near the village of Azmut, east of Nablus. Since the conflict began in October, there has been a marked increase in violence involving Israeli military and settlers, with at least 1,094 Palestinians reported killed in the West Bank as of the latest figures from the United Nations.
